The proper stacking of logs is essential in preparing them to burn in the stove. This will ensure that they are dry and ready to be burned. Leaving space between the logs and separating their ends even facilitates airflow, which is key to ensure that your firewood drys efficiently. Additionally, securing the wood from the elements by storing them under tarps or in specialized structures promotes drying and preserves their quality.
Round stacking is a popular way to stack firewood. It is simple to use and looks great. Begin by constructing an initial base of three to four parallel rows of treated 2x4s or pallets. On top of the base, build a stack of pillars, by placing 3-4 pieces of wood side-by-side and then another on opposite sides. Continue to build the pillars until the stack is 12 rows high, making sure that there are plenty of spaces between each pillar so that air can flow freely through the entire pile.

Then, use a center stake to keep the stack in place and start adding perpendicular pieces to the outside of the stack, and then tie them together in the middle using string. Repeat this process until you reach the ceiling height of your wall. Then you can finish the inside with odd-shaped pieces or any that are too large for the outer rows. It is important to remember that indoor stacking requires a space that has plenty of light and airflow, as overcrowding an area can result in moldy and damp wood. The ideal indoor space for stacking is usually garages or basements.
